This tool counts characters (with and without spaces), words, sentences, paragraphs, and unique words in real time as you type. It is useful for staying within platform limits such as Twitter/X (280 characters), SEO meta descriptions (150–160 characters), SMS messages (160 characters), and LinkedIn posts (3,000 characters).
Reading time
Reading time is estimated using an average reading speed of 200 words per minute — a commonly cited figure for silent reading on screen. The result is rounded up to a minimum of 1 minute. For very short texts the estimate is intentionally conservative.
Character limits by platform
Twitter/X: 280 characters per tweet. Instagram: 2,200 characters per caption. LinkedIn: 3,000 characters per post. YouTube: 100 characters for titles, 5,000 for descriptions. Google SEO: ~60 characters for title tags, ~155 for meta descriptions. SMS: 160 characters per segment (7-bit GSM encoding). Slack: 40,000 characters per message.
